Seawater
pools strengthen the health in a natural way. Seawater has a beneficial effect on the body; it protects the
skin, alleviates respiratory problems, relieves pain and stress, detoxifies the
body and strengthens the immune system. Seawater contains iodine, which
enhances mental capabilities, helps regulate hormones and enables the proper
functioning of the thyroid gland. Sea air, due to negatively charged ions and
sea salt particles, has a healing effect on the airways, bronchi and lungs.

Saunas
It has been known for centuries that a sauna
has many positive effects on the human body and spirit, not to mention that it
strengthens the body's natural defence mechanisms and relieves many diseases.
The modern spa and wellness centres of saunas of the Bernardin
Hotels offer a wide selection of dry saunas, including a Finnish sauna,
infrared sauna, herbal sauna, bio sauna and wet saunas, including the
Mediterranean steam bath, the Thai steam bath, the Roman steam bath. You can refresh yourself in the “ice
moment” (cold plunge basin). Saunas are characterised by the
variety of rituals and body scrubs. You can choose from a variety of programmes
that are a combination of the intertwinedtradition of the East and West and the science of well-being.
Finnish sauna
The Finnish sauna is the most common traditional type of sauna. This type
of sauna has been known for over a thousand years. The air is heated up to 90 degrees Celsius, while the relative humidity is between 15% and 30%. It has an
indirect impact on the human body, through heating the air in a closed,
insulated and often wooden room. By pouring a mixture of water and fragrance
over heated stones, a hot wave of steam is created, which additionally warms
the room and accelerates perspiration and consequently the detoxification of the body. At this temperature, the human body
consumes a lot of calories, so the sauna contributes to a lean body.
Turkish sauna
The Turkish sauna or steam sauna is also one of the oldest body cleansing and relaxation rituals. Water steam detoxifies the body by promoting the excretion of harmful metabolic residues. Unlike the Finnish sauna, the temperature is lower. It ranges between 45 and 55 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is very high, reaching up to 100%. Due to the high humidity and inhaling the fragrance of natural essential oils and herbs, the Turkish sauna has a positive effect on the respiratory system. The heat opens the skin’s pores and thus contributes to natural skin cleansing, detoxification and improved well-being.
Herbal sauna
The herbal sauna is one of the modern versions of the Finnish sauna. The selected herbs are released into the room through steam and thus have a beneficial effect on the body. The herbal sauna is a perfect choice for those who are overworked and need relaxation, as it has proven to have a beneficial effect on the nervous system. The air temperature in the herbal sauna ranges between 40 and 50 degrees Celsius, while the air humidity is somewhere between 60% and 65%. The herbs most commonly used in this type of sauna are chamomile, peppermint, eucalyptus and, of course, the exceedingly popular lavender and other Mediterranean herbs.
Infrared sauna
The infrared (IR) sauna is a more recent type of sauna, which has become increasingly popular lately. Infrared radiation is a type of energy that heats the body directly, meaning that it does not heat up the ambient air – the process is called conversion. People feel infrared light as heat. This means that this type of sauna has a deep effect. Infrared heaters radiate infrared energy that penetrates 4 cm deep into the body tissue and is equal to the infrared radiation emitted by the sun. The IR rays promote blood circulation and cause perspiration. The key difference in the effect of the infrared sauna is that at a temperature between 40 and 60 degrees Celsius, the effect on the body is 2 to 3 times greater than in a Finnish sauna at a temperature of 90–100 degrees. The lower temperature is naturally much safer for those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, as well as for children and the elderly. The humidity in an infrared sauna is 45% maximum, making it much more pleasant to breathe. This type of sauna can also be used to warm the body before exercise, because it can be used with clothes on.
Roman steam bath
The Roman steam bath originates from the
old European cultures. The Romans believed in relaxation in thermal water and
dry-air baths. This version features a pleasant air temperature of between 42
and 45 degrees Celsius, while the humidity is relatively high, between 45% and
65%. The climate has a beneficial effect on relaxation, it opens the skin pores
and is healthy for the respiratory system.
Ice moment
Ice moment (also called the ice cave or wet cave) derives from ancient Roman times. It is a room for quickly cooling the body after using the sauna. A special small basin is filled with cold water, which is only 8–12 degrees Celsius. It has proven positive effects on the body, because the interplay of hot and cold water on the body promotes revitalisation, improves blood circulation, skin condition and muscle elasticity.
Whirlpool
The whirlpool provides a beneficial water massage to fully relax the body
in the embrace of countless air bubbles. The whirlpool has many positive
effects on health: it increases the body temperature, helps strengthen the
immune system and releases endorphins, which that are considered the most
natural pain fighters. A massage bathtub generally has a relaxing effect,
resulting in energy recharge.
Massages
Massages are also a ritual that was
practised by many ancient civilisations. They were known and used by the
Chinese (TUI NA), the Hawaiians (Lomi Lomi), the Indians (Ayurveda), the Romans
(Roman manual massage), the Swedes (Swedish massage featuring a technique of
various pressure), the Japanese (Shiatsu massage, normally done on the
floor) and many other nations around the world. There are about 100 different
types of massage and massage techniques that are used for various purposes and
for different parts of the body. Massage improves
well-being and health, as it affects the blood circulation and lymph
circulation, and stimulates the metabolic system. Body massage relieves muscle
and joint pain since the tension in the body eases with the massage of the
muscles and the stretching and softening of muscle fibres. That way, we
harmonise the physical energy and establish a balance between the body and
spirit. Treat yourself to a soothing and relaxing massage in our spa centres,
where we will provide for your well-being, relaxation and regeneration of the
body.
Therapies
Why do people use healing and therapeutic
programs? Not only to relieve pain and improve general well-being, but also to detox and regenerate the body. In
addition to relaxation services, the wellness centres of the Bernardin Hotel
offer numerous therapeutic/healing and beauty programmes. Therapies are
performed by experienced therapists who will listen to your needs and ensure
your maximum comfort.
The beauty programmes also include
treatments for a well-groomed face, makeup,
beautifully shaped and highlighted eyebrows, dyed or elongated eyelashes, and
doing the nails on your hands and feet. Cosmetics experts in wellness centres
will be happy to advise you on how to let your beauty shine in full.
Skincare
The skin is the largest organ of the human
body, a protector and a key element of the body's defence system against many
harmful external and internal factors. Careful, regular and proper care of the
skin is of key importance and essential for the general health and well-being
of each of us. Skincare comprises care for the body, face and feet. It is
necessary for dry, dehydrated skin, weak tone, water retention in the body, theacidity of the body, cellulite, weak
muscular structure, widened veins and more. The skin on the face is very
sensitive and exposed on a daily basis, therefore it needs special care. Foot
care is practised for aesthetic reasons and for medical treatment of the feet.
Our experienced qualified staff will be
happy to provide care for your face and feet and you can treat the skin of your
entire body to numerous massage and
therapeutic techniques from the extensive range of additional services that
are available in the scope of the accommodation at the Bernardin Hotels.
Wellness for every season
The needs of our body change with the seasons
and the weather conditions. Typical of spring are anti-cellulite treatments and various body care treatments (such as detox) for skin
regeneration. In the summer we provide soothing
care after sunbathing and dehydration and pampering with massages on the
beach. Autumn is the time for skin care and muscle relaxation massage. In the winter we welcome sauna and body detox.
