In 2014 Hoteli Bernardin partnered with the company GGE d.o.o. and took the first decisive steps toward long-term solutions in the field of energetic efficiency in hotels: it made a energetically efficient investment in water/sea reversible heat pumps in Grand hotel Bernardin and hotel Salinera in Strunjan. By doing so we’re gradually reducing operating costs, implementing a long-term business aspect and improving competitiveness through the use of a natural resource – the sea – in an environmentally friendly way. It is the first commercial project of this kind in this part of Europe. During the 16th Days of energetics the newspaper Finance awarded the heat pump in Grand hotel Bernardin with an award for the best renewable resource project.

 
In 2015 San Simon resort also changed its heating system, combining new gas boilers and an air/water heat pump.
