Re-creation in every season, with just a step to the sea

Slovenia is located at a junction of different cultures and climates and is easily accessible, safe, with great accommodation options and sports infrastructure. Moreover, it has a highly developed system for training, testing and rehabilitation of athletes. Slovenian athletes have always been excelling in various sports at world championships and the Olympic Games and they are also great partners to the athletes and teams that come to prepare and train or attend friendly sport competitions. In Hoteli Bernardin you can choose among various accommodation options in the proximity of sports facilities and the national Olympic training centre in Koper and Portorož. Besides excellent accommodation and a culinary offer tailored to the athletes’ requirements, we also fully support athletes in their training process.

In our hotels and the sports facilities nearby we make sure that athletes have an excellent training programme and spend unforgettable moments in the Mediterranean part of Slovenia, where the climate and the training conditions are favourable during the whole year and especially from January to May and from September to December.

Cycling

The Slovenian coast is intertwined with many marked and unmarked cycling trails of various difficulty levels. You can take your family on a lovely trip on well-tended and paved trails, whereas the more adventurous can venture on unpaved gravel trails or through woods, tackling various ascents and thrilling descents.

The most known cycling trail is the easy, marked and well-tended trail from Izola to Sečovlje. This route is suitable for anyone who enjoys cycling: recreational cyclists, young families and also older cyclists. We start in Izola, on the crossroad between Leninova and Prešernova street, and head towards the hills, where we quickly see the marking for the cycling trail. We continue towards Strunjan and then Portorož, passing through the lighted tunnel Šalet. Then we follow the marking of the cycling trails and pedal easily through olive groves and vineyards in the direction of Portorož, passing through Dobrava and then Strunjan. Here we pass through another tunnel, the 550 m long Valeta tunnel, and continue our way on the descent towards Lucija. We can continue towards Seča, where we cross the main road and pass Parecag before arriving in Sečovlje.

A map of the cycling trails on the Slovenian coast will be very useful. If you have any other cycling related requirements, Hotel Histrion and Hotel Salinera will take care of them, as they are certified cyclist friendly hotels.

Running

Along the Slovenian coast you can find various trails for all types of runners - from beginners to those who run marathons. Beginners should be careful when choosing their trails, as some seaside trails are more difficult - with cliffs, altitude differences, rocks and other elements that might cause a fall. To avoid injuries we recommend you use the quieter trails in towns or the marked walking trails along the coastal roads. One of these is the trail from Koper to Izola, which follows the course of and old railway and ends in San Simon bay. It’s a dynamic and lively trail but totally suitable also for beginners.

For more ideas and inspiration you can use the Endomondo app, where runners post interesting running trails.

The paths used by cyclists and runners can also be used by hikers and Nordic walking enthusiasts. Nordic walking is a very healthy activity and a natural movement of the body, where we use most of the muscles and thus reinforce the whole body. If you like walking and mountaineering, then Nordic walking is a great upgrade and you will certainly love it!

Tennis

For quite some time tennis has no longer been just a summer sport or a sport for outdoor courts. Numerous clubs on the Slovenian coast have indoor tennis courts which allow pleasant training also during winter. Most often tennis courts are covered by air-supported domes and they’re also equipped with lighting that allows you to play at night. Tennis can also be played in sports halls. On the Slovenian coast there’s no off season for tennis, as covered courts allow year-round playing for all tennis enthusiasts. A great advantage in all coastal towns is the proximity of hotels, where we offer accommodation during sport camps and tennis trainings. (link:  )
