Blue flags awarded to 5 beaches and the marina of Hoteli Bernardin also in 2016

18. 7. 2016

Portorož, 6.5.2016 – At the fair Internautica 16 blue flags were awarded to beaches and marinas. Hoteli Bernardin received 6 blue flags, 5 for the beaches of Bernardin, Salinera in Strunjan, San Simon in Izola and Camp Lucija. Marina Bernardin also received the blue flag.

Three awards of recognition were also awarded for the most effective environmental activity on the beach in 2015. Amongst the three best activities was also the activity held on the natural beach in Salinera Strunjan. The award was won thanks to the beach manager Miha Belina, who came up with the activity and saw it carried out.

The blue flag is one of the most important touristic eco symbols. For beach guests it is a symbol that guarantees a clean, safe and maintained environment for recreation in the sea and on the beach. The Blue flag programme requires a systematic approach from municipalities and beach mangers in order to achieve and maintain higher standards on beaches and in marinas. The programme strives to achieve sustainable development on natural beaches and marinas with demanding criteria in the areas of water quality, environmental education and informing, environmental management, safety and services.

The recognisability of the Blue flag as an ecological symbol is confirmed also by the fact that the German travel agent TUI awarded it a recognition award at the Travel trade show in Berlin and that the environmental programme of the UN (UNEP) as well as the World Tourism Organisation have acknowledged it.

The Blue flag programme is coordinated by the Environmental education foundation (FEE international) and implemented by the Blue Flag Coordination with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.
